Giving Back

We appreciate all that our service members do for us. In allowing us to run your tournament, we pledge 10% of the proceedsto Fisher House. Fisher House™ program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care. The Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

• What about extended email and internet access outages?

If email and internet access is not working for any reason, contestants will be instructed to send their respective starting line-ups to the FunBosses. As long as contestants meet the pertinent deadlines, the FunBoss will submit the line-ups to Deployed Entertainment once email has been restored. Deployed Entertainment will then retro actively submit line-ups on the tournament site. This occurred in Week 7 and Week 8 last year during the Reagan's tournament. The plan worked well and there were no complaints.

• How are the prizes determined?

Prizes are chosen at the discretion of the FunBoss. Some of the Reagan weekly prizes included an I-Phone, PlayStation 3, and $100 NEX gift voucher. The grand prizes included $1400 Best Buy gift card, Trip for two to Vegas, and much much more. We can provide yout with a list of all the prizes upon request. Part of the Pre-Season Meeting is helping you determine on a list of prizes that will both entice your service members to sign up and to keep you under budget as well.

• What involvement will I need to have with the ship's IT department?

Deployed Entertainment will provide you with canned webpages for your intranet to help promote the tournament and also to provide additional information. All you'll have to do is ensure the webpages gets to your respective webmaster.

• What is Fantasy Football?

Fantasy Football is a game played by football fans in which participants draft their own team and compete with teams built by others. Scoring systems vary among fantasy football leagues, but most are based on points accumulated by players based on their real-life performance in a game on the same day.

Traditional Fantasy Football Leagues

In a “standard” fantasy football league, there are typically 10 or 12 teams, and all of the team owners get together before the season starts to conduct a draft and select the NFL players that they want to be on their team. Each week of the season they conduct trades and transactions as needed to replace players that get injured or otherwise do not perform as well as expected. Then they submit a starting line-up consisting of their best players for the current week, and their weekly score is calculated based on the cumulative scores of all the players they selected as starters. A head-to-head schedule is created at the start of the season, and each fantasy team plays against one other fantasy team in the league each week. This type of system works great for a standard fantasy football league with a set number of teams.

“Start ‘Em Once” Tournament Format

No Draft Required! You get a new starting line-up each week. In this format, the only limitation is that each NFL player can only be started once during the entire season. For example, if a team chooses to use Peyton Manning in Week #1, then that is the only time they can use him as their QB for the entire season. It simplifies the entire league so each contestant just has a simple weekly task of selecting a starting lineup. At the same time, a lot of skill is involved while trying to figure out who to start throughout the entire season andplanning for good match ups each week.

• How Does Fantasy Football Work?

After your contestants sign up for the tournament, they will be given a login and password to your respective tournament site.

The contestants will be able to login and select your starting line-up every week. A starting line-up consists of:

1 Quarterback
2 Running Backs
3 Wide Receivers
1 Tight End
1 Place Kicker
1 Defensive / Special Team

Contestant’s weekly scores are calculated based on the cumulative scores of all the players they selected as their respective starters for the week. An example would be if your Quarterback scored three passing touchdowns, then your fantasy team would receive 12 points (4 points for each passing TD). Points are also rewarded for yards accumulated, turnovers, and various other statistics.

Once all your players have completed their respective games, your team's Total Points will be tallied and compared with all the other teams in the tournament. After each week, the teams with the highest Total Points will win weekly prizes. Your weekly Total Points are added up for the entire season through Week 12 of the NFL season. After Week 12, the top 10% will advance into the Tournament Playoffs and compete for the one of the Grand Prizes.

There's one catch! Once a contestant selects an NFL Player they cannot select him again until the playoffs. WHY...you might ask? Well, Start 'Em Once' format simplifies the entire league, including the administration of a ship-wide league. There are no draft and no waiver-wire transactions to be brokered. All you have to do is logon to the tournament site and submit your starting line-up each week. What if the internet is down while we are underway? No worries, contestants can email Deployed Entertainment and we will do the rest. It’s that simple!

• Is Fantasy Football Gambling?

In short, NO!

Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, which was an amendment to the larger and unrelated Safe Port Act, included "carve out" language that clarified the legality of fantasy sports. It was signed into law on October 13, 2006 by President George W. Bush. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act makes transactions from banks or similar institutions to online gambling sites illegal, with the notable exceptions of fantasy sports, online lotteries and horse/harness racing.

The bill specifically exempts fantasy sports games, educational games, or any online contest that "has an outcome that reflects the relative knowledge of the participants, or their skill at physical reaction or physical manipulation (but not chance), and, in the case of a fantasy or simulation sports game, has an outcome that is determined predominantly by accumulated statistical results of sporting events…"

Just to simplify, Fantasy Football is a game of skill, not chance; therefore, it is legal.
